Cape Peninsular National Park & Table Mountain.
The day will be spent enjoying a comprehensive tour of the many points of interest on the Cape Peninsula and Table Mountain.
The Table Mountain tour is weather dependent and as such this tour may be modified with very little notice.
Leaving Franschhoek we take a scenic drive to the Cape Peninsular National Park. At Simon’s Town we will take a boat trip to see the remarkable bird and marine life of Seal Island – where approximately 7,000 Cape Fur Seals have made their home on low lying rocks. During this sail we will have an opportunity to see Great White sharks as well as whales and dolphins.
Our next stop is at Boulders Beach to see the resident colony of African Penguins, one of the few places in the world where this sea bird resides. A series of wooden walkways allow visitors to get exceptionally close to the birds and observe their often quite playful habits.
We continue, passing through the extremely scenic Cape Peninsula National Park to the Cape of Good Hope. The Cape was first seen by a European in 1488 when Portuguese sailor Diaz sailed around it on his search for a sea route to the East Indies. The Portuguese tried to settle here but could not handle the local Khoi people, and left.
A century later Sir Francis Drake described it as ‘the fairest cape we saw in the whole circumference of the earth. It then took another century before the Dutch East Indies Trading Company established a permanent settlement here to supply ships with water and cattle (traded from the indigenous Khoi people, who reared livestock in the land around the coast).
Cape Point is situated at the south-western tip of Africa. It is well known for treacherous seas as you pass from the Atlantic Ocean to the Indian Ocean or visa-versa. Cape point also has many variations of beautiful flowers and fynbos to see. The scenery at Cape Point is one of splendour and detail, so give yourself a few hours to explore. The park has numerous walking trails and areas for you to explore and perhaps have a picnic lunch.
We climb up to a viewpoint and watch the turbulent clash of the warm Agulhas current from the Indian Ocean meeting the cold Benguela current from the Atlantic. If you’re feeling active, a short trail leads down to Cape Point.
Alternatively there is also a funicular that will take you right to the tip of the point where you can see the whole of the peninsula. When visiting Cape Town this is a must see local attraction. Whilst Cape Point is easily the most spectacular and most popular of the southern points it is not the most southerly, this can be found 90 miles to the south east, where Cape Agulhas can be found.
You will certainly see a lot of Baboons and probably some other smaller rodents and lots of birds. Both birds and Baboons are looking for food. Please don’t feed them.
We take lunch here and then drive to the Table Mountain Cable Car.
We will take an easy walk of +/- 1hr around the top of table Mountain. If some of you are feeling fit you could walk down Platterklip Gorge (+/- 3 hrs) and be picked up by the bus after the rest of the party have gone down by cable car.
If you want the quick way down why not abseil!!!!
We then return to Franschhoek where you can wine & dine at any one of the splendid restaurants.
Clients pick up point to Cape Peninsular and then on to Table Mountain.
